No foreplay? You're not even going to buy me dinner? You just expect me to put out? Liza: I'll tell you what. I will talk to you about dinner when you tell me everything you know. What is the scoop? Come on. Tad: How's this? [He turns the laptop so they can both look at it.] Looks like your plaintiff, Ms. Stark, made a five-figure deposit in her savings account right after she slapped Fusion with that lawsuit. Liza: A payoff? Tad: Looks like it. She'd never deposited anything larger than a social security check before this. Liza: I knew she was paid to sue us. Tad: Yeah. Looks to me like somebody's out to destroy Fusion without getting their own hands dirty. Liza: [Nodding] Yeah, but who did it? And why? Liza: [On the phone] Alfred, thank you so much. You have totally turned this around for us. Thanks again. [She hangs up, smiling.] That was Alfred Vanderpoole with the bank. Tad: He hasn't been able to tell you no since high school. Big deal. Liza: [Teasing] Are you jealous? Tad: A little. Liza: [Laughing] Of Alfred? Tad: Yeah, you're flirting with him, not me. Liza: You know, you really are impossible. Tad: Yeah [he looks up at her] and you love every second of it. Liza: Okay, you know what? We've got work to do, because Alfred told me that the money was wired into Gertrude Stark's account from a bank in the Cayman Islands. Tad: Did he give you a name or an account number? Liza: No. He said he was going to look into it and he would fax us the in... [computer beeps, printer prints] ...formation. Tad: Wow. [He stands up, smiling. He walks to the fax machine.] If I didn't know better, I'd swear that good old Alfred was trying to impress you. Liza: Oh, come on. Stop. [They both read the fax.] Tad: That can't be right. [He hands the paper to Liza.] Liza: I guess it makes total sense. Tad: How? I mean, why try to crush a little start-up like Fusion? Liza: One reason, and the name is Kendall Hart. [She walks away.] Tad: Kendall? Where are you going? Liza: I have to deal with this. Tad: Yeah, what about my dinner? Liza: You'll get your dinner. If you play your cards right, I might even throw in dessert. [She kisses his cheek.] Tad: Okay. [They see Adam. It's awkward.] Liza: Adam. Hi. Tad was just, uh, helping me with a project. Adam: Oh, no. No need to explain. [He smiles.] I was just surprised to hear your voice since you're no longer with the company. Tad: Oh, that's all right. I mean, all those corporate secrets are still safe. Liza: He was just helping me with something for Fusion. I guess I should repay you for company time. Adam: Oh, no, no, no, no, don't be silly. I'm glad Tad could help. [Tad and Liza share a look.] How are things going over there? Liza: Rocky. But we'll turn it around. Adam: I have no doubt of it. Well, don't want to interrupt. Liza: Oh, no. You weren't interrupting. I was done. I was leaving. Adam: I'll be seeing you later when I come to pick up Colby for the weekend. Liza: Yes. She's looking forward to it. Adam: So am I. Liza: Okay. Thanks. [To Tad] Thanks. Bye. [She leaves.] |
