[Tad opens the door and walks in talking.] Tad: Liza, Ruby needs the feed-- [He stops as he sees Jake.] Hello. This is kind of an interesting combination -- sort of like surf n' turf. Liza: Uh, what about Rudy and the feed? Tad: Uh, I don't know. I forgot. It just went right out of my head. What's going on? Liza: As if you don't know. Tad: I - I don't. I don't have a clue. What is it, Joseph? You care to fill me in? [Liza looks a Jake.] Tad: Okay, okay. Let's start over again. I work here. [He points to Liza.] You work here. [He points to Jake.] And you are...? Jake: I'm just passing through. Tad: Looking for me? Liza: He came to see me. Tad: [Laughs] You? You're serious? So what's going on? My boss and my younger brother all of a sudden plotting against me, is that it? Liza: [To Jake] You really didn't tell him, did you? Tad: Tell me what? Jake: I told you I didn't tell him. Tad: Hello? I'm still in the room. Jake: It has nothing to do with you, all right? Liza and I just got our signals crossed. It's kind of a weird coincidence, actually-- Liza: Actually, it's business. I asked Jake to do the Cutting Edge. Tad: As what? Liza: As a... medical student... in the profession, uh, what it means to patients, you konw, sort of like the profession in flux, so to speak. Tad: [To Jake] And this is all right with you? Jake: Huh. It wasn't my idea. Tad: Okay, okay, time out. [To Liza] You're telling me that [to Jake] you are going on national television to announce that you're dropping out of med. school. That's -- that's priceless, man. That's a good way of breaking it to Mom and Dad, huh? Okay. Playtime's over. What is this, guys? Why have you two really got your heads together? [Liza and Jake look at him.] Liza: [To Tad] Your brother wasn't completely honest with me. Jake: I left Stanford last Fall. It's not an issue with me. [To Tad] And I'm going to tell Mom and Dad when I'm ready, not on television. Liza: Why'd you leave? Jake: I woke up one morning, realized I was a stranger in my own world. Maybe that's happened to you. What you have, what you want don't really add up. Tad: Well, jinkies, this has been nifty but it's almost '97 and I'm due back on the planet Earth. [To Liza] Do you have the ad projections? Liza: Later. Tad: No, now. I need them approved. Liza: No, I'm swamped. Tad: I have to wrestle with Adam. Liza: Better you than me. Tad: Thank you for your support. I'll take the high road, refrain from comedy. [To Jake] I'll be in my office later on. You can check in, okay? Jake: Sure. Tad: [To Liza] If you get a moment for some work later on, you can give me a call. [To Jake] Don't let her talk you into anything, you know, she's got her ways. [Tad leaves.] |
