![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() October 6, 2003: A family dinner at the Chander mansion. Tad: [To Adam, about Mary] Oh, if I were you, I'd watch this one. She's quick. Like last week she showed up in my bedroom. Mary: Thank you, that's enough. Adam: She what? What? Tad: She showed up in my bedroom, offering her services in exchange for mine. Mary: No, that's -- that -- no, that's not the way it's -- it's not the way it sounds. Adam: No, it sounds wonderful. That's good now. It's very lucky for you. She's already packed, ready to go out the door. You can take her home right now. I'm sure you two will be very happy together. [Brooke and Jamie walk in.] Brooke: What's the matter, Tad? Lose a bet? Jamie: You can't take her home with you, Dad. You've got to have room for Simone. Brooke: You and Simone? [Marian and Liza walk in.] Marian: Tad and Simone? Liza: Yeah, Tad and Simone. I thought everybody knew. Liza: Don't give Tad a hard time because he's having a fling with Simone. They're adults who presumably know what they're doing. Tad: Could we please not discuss it? Liza: The same is true with Adam and Mary. Tad: Oh, that's okay, go right ahead. Liza: Adam can share his house with whomever he chooses. Adam: I am not sharing my house with Mary. As you can see, her bags are packed. She's on her way out. Mary: Adam, the workmen have already started on the studio you promised me, and I've ordered a half a ton of Carrara marble. Tad: Well, here today, gone Carrara. Mary: But why? Marian: Because we already have one genuine artist on this property, Mary. That's why. Mary: Adam, I've sent out announcements. Please, I can't stand one more humiliation. Please? Adam: All right, all right, all right, all right. Why don't you get settled at the Valley Inn and then give my office a call, and they'll set you up in a loft here in town. [Joe and Ruth walk in.] Joe: Hello, hello. The door was open. Ruth: I hope we're not late. Adam: No, no. JR isn't down yet, but we're having breakfast just as soon as Mary leaves. [JR appears.] JR: Mary's leaving? Oh, we hardly got to know each other. Mary: Yes, JR and I had a nice talk while he was cooking. What were you making? JR: It's dolma. It's grape leaves stuffed with lamb. Mary: It's fabulous. JR: It needed more mint. Mary: No, it was perfect. JR: Yeah, I hope you're not leaving because I'm here. Mary: Well, as a matter of fact -- JR: But we got plenty of room and I'd like you to stay. Adam: Fine. This is your house, too. Mary: Fine. I'll just go change my clothes for breakfast -- excuse me -- and everybody go ahead without me. Just -- I'll be down in a little bit. [She goes upstairs.] JR: Well, hey! How is everyone? Marian: Hey, you! You are a grown man. You look wonderful. Welcome home. Joe: JR, you do. You look great. JR: Oh, well, thank you. Joe: Good for you. Brooke: It's amazing what a couple of months can do, really. JR: Oh, well, time well spent. Brooke: Ah. JR: Grandma Ruth. You look fabulous. Ruth: Oh. It's my haircut. Well, the sea certainly was good for you, JR. JR: Oh. Liza. How are you? How's Colby? Liza: She's waiting for a rematch in chess. Welcome home. JR: Thank you. Jamie. Jamie: Hey, hey. JR: What's up, buddy? Jamie: Not much. Ruth: Tell me about these dolmas, hmm? JR: Oh, yes. Well, we had this old Armenian chef on there, and he was just a genius and he taught me so much. Ruth: I could never get you to eat anything except pizza and cheeseburgers! Brooke: Oh, right, and get him to wash a dish. Ruth: Right. JR: Well, that's not a problem anymore, and if you need 100 pounds of potatoes peeled, I'm your man. Jamie: So that's all you did on your trip was peel potatoes? JR: Well, little brother, that's not all I did. Tad: Ooh. We're still waiting for details. Ruth: Are we? Brooke: Oh, JR, you're taking after your stepfather. Tad: And I'm proud of it. Jamie: Hey! How come it's cool if he gets some action? Tad: You go to sea, learn how to peel 100 potatoes, we'll talk. Joe: So, what are your plans? Ruth: Oh, now, let him rest. He deserves it. JR: Well, nothing at the moment, but you'll be the first to find out. [Phone rings] JR: Oh, wait, that's for me. [He goes to answer the phone.] Liza: [To Brooke] So who does he remind you of? Brooke: Hmm, let me see -- Adam? Liza: Mm-hmm. JR: Hello? Yo! Maybe. No, the Canadian. Can you give me a minute? Yeah. [To his guests] I'm going to take this upstairs. Uno momento, por favor. Ruth: He looks good. Tad: I think he looks great. Marian: I think he looks fabulous. Joe: I think so, too. [They all talk. Adam slowly makes his way to the phone.] Liza: Are you for real? Adam: Shh! Brooke: He hasn't been back home 24 hours. Adam: I wanted to make sure he picked up. Liza: No, you were snooping. Do you remember why he left in the first place? Brooke: Because you never let up on him because you never trusted him. Liza: You know, you have an opportunity here. Don't blow it. Adam: All right. I was curious. Liza: Mm-hmm. Brooke: Would you let him have some privacy? Liza: You remember when you told me to tell you when you messed up? Well, you messed up. [JR re-appears.] Joe: Hey, JR, we're getting hungry down here. JR: Ladies and gentlemen, you may proceed to the dining room. Ruth: Yes. Adam: JR, save a little room. I made a lunch reservation at the club. I want to show you off. JR: Oh, I'm sorry, Dad. I'm already booked. Adam: You're already booked? But you just got here. You're leaving already? JR: No, of course I'm not leaving. I'm hanging out with Jamie this afternoon, right? Jamie: Uh -- right. Adam: Right. Are you sure it has nothing to do with that phone call? JR: Phone call? Dad, you're going to ask me about the phone call? Adam: No. No, no. No, of course not. It's just -- no, go have a good time. You're going to be here forever, I hope, and I'll show you off at the club another time. JR: All right. Sounds like a plan. Adam: Yeah. Tad: [To Brooke] Kind of curious about that phone call myself. Brooke: Mm-hmm. |
