April 8, 1997:
Liza tells Tad she's leaving Pine Valley.

[At WRCW, Tad's office.]

Gloria: I need to head over to the hospital, go to work. I will expect you to have dinner prepared by the time I get home, yes? Veal picatta would be delicious.

Tad: Right. [Gloria laughs, blows him a kiss, then leaves.]

Liza: [Smiling] So... you and Gloria, engaged.

Tad: What? You don't approve?

Liza: No, I'm -- I'm very, very happy for you. Gloria's -- she's alright. And, I think that if you find the right person to fall in love with, you should hang onto it. Otherwise, you know, you could just spend the rest of your life alone.

Tad: Well, Liza Colby [he smiles] as I live and breathe. How positively uncynical of you.

Liza: You've grown up a lot in the last year. Is it such a stretch to think I might've, too?

Tad: Well, actually--

Liza: [She puts her hand up, laughing.] Forget it. Forget -- forget I asked. Really. Oh.

[The phone buzzes. Tad answers it.]

Tad: Yeah, Jojo. Liza's right here. Yeah, hang on. Liza.

Liza: Hmm?

Tad: It's for you. Long distance from San Francisco.

Liza: Oh! [She rushes over.] That's great, thanks. [Tad hands her the phone.] Yeah? Uhuh? Um, well, yeah, that would be great, actually. Um, could we make it late in the afternoon? That's perfect, I'll see you then. Thank you. [She hangs up, smiling happily.] Oh, yes.

Tad: Well? What's up with San Francisco? WRCW scoop Barbara Walters?

Liza: Actually, who WRCW scoops and who they don't scoop is really not my concern anymore.

Tad: [Laughing] Excuse me?

Liza: I'm quitting.

Tad: [He looks at her, then smiles, not believing it.] You're leaving? [Liza nods. Tad realizes she's serious, and his face falls.] Why?

Liza: I'm leaving Adam. And you know how awkward it can be, working with an ex.

Tad: Yeah. Sure. Can't say I'm surprised. Fact is I never understood why you married him in the first place. So the, um, call from San Francisco, that was a job interview?

Liza: Yes, KOSF.

Tad: Good station.

Liza: Yeah.

Tad: Why San Francisco? I mean, why not DC, or, um, Philly?

Liza: Well, a lot's happened since I came back and I thought it might be good to start fresh somewhere far, far away.

Tad: You're scared of him, aren't you?

Liza: Who?

Tad: Adam. Come on, admit it, you're scared he's going to blacklist you all up and down the Eastern seaboard, right?

Liza: Well, Tad, he can try. Leticia Barkrov has given me a standing offer. She'll let me work at any station she owns.

Tad: Yeah, well, be that as it may, I still say you're letting him run you out of town, and the Liza I used to know would have told him where to go.

Liza: Adam's only one of the enemies I've made since I came back, Tad.

Tad: What's a few enemies to Liza Colby? [He regrets his choice of words.] All I meant to say was... uh, I'm sorry. Something's up, what is it?

Liza: Nothing.

[Belinda appears and knocks on the open door.]

Tad: Belinda.

Liza: Hi.

Belinda: Hi, Tad. Uh, Liza, Jojo said you were here--

Liza: Oh--

Belinda: We have an appointment.

Liza: Yes, we do. Right. I'm sorry.

Tad: You guys, uh, you feel free to use my office--

Liza: Oh, thanks.

Tad: I'm due down in editing.

Liza: Okay.

Belinda: Thank you.

Tad: See ya.

Liza: Yeah.

[Tad leaves.]

[Later that day, Liza and Jake are at Tad's. They're kissing and don't see Tad come in.]
