![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Performer of the Week David Canary and Michael E. Knight (Adam and Tad, ALL MY CHILDREN) These stylistic differences can be summarized thusly: Adam clings, Tad lets go. When OLTL's Asa and Kevin stormed the Chandler mansion to demand "Ace's" return, Adam coolly dismissed their threats and confidently offered up a few of his own. But he wasn't just grandstanding for the Buchanans; his huffing and puffing was also a show of fierce loyalty to (and for) JR. The subtle, but unmistakable urgency underlying Adam's swagger was Canary's masterful method of giving voice to the unspoken stakes of this showdown -- if JR didn't get to keep his son, Adam might not get to keep JR. Down in New Orleans, Tad also stood to lose his son forever as he helped Jamie prepare to flee to Argentina with Babe and the baby, never to return. Jamie started to express his gratitude, but Tad wouldn't hear it. "Don't thank me," he said with a weary son. "I'm just a father taking care of his son." For Tad, unlike Adam, loving his son means allowing him to fight his own battles, not taking them on as his own. If he had revealed his heartbreak, Jamie would've suffered. So Knight struck a tone of tempered resignation, Tad's last, selfless gift to his only son. Of course, Jamie never made it to Argentina, so the baby war rages on. And if these powerhouse performances are a taste of things to come, we say: Let it rage! |
